Offense galore: Record night for offensive players at 2024 NFL draft; QB record also tied
View Date:2025-01-11 13:29:16
It was all about offense during the first round of the 2024 NFL draft.
The first 14 picks of this year's draft were historic as all of them are offensive players, and six them quarterbacks, the first time for both marks in NFL draft history.
It was already the fourth time quarterbacks went 1-2-3 when the Chicago Bears took Caleb Williams, the Washington Commanders picked Jayden Daniels and the New England Patriots selected Drake Maye, but the record for signal-callers in the top 10 was broken when the Atlanta Falcons took Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8, the Minnesota Vikings selected J.J. McCarthy at No. 10 and Bo Nix went to the Denver Broncos at No. 12.
The other offensive players taken in the first 14 picks were:
- No. 4: Marvin Harrison Jr. to Arizona Cardinals
- No. 5: Joe Alt to Los Angeles Chargers
- No. 6: Malik Nabers to New York Giants
- No. 7: JC Latham to Tennessee Titans
- No. 9: Rome Odunze to Chicago Bears
- No. 11: Olumuyiwa Fashanu to New York Jets
- No. 13: Brock Bowers to Las Vegas Raiders
- No. 14: Taliese Fuaga to New Orleans Saints

UCLA defensive end Laiatu Latu broke the streak by becoming the first defensive player drafted when the Indianapolis Colts took him with the No. 15 pick.
The six quarterbacks taken in the first round is tied for the most in NFL draft history when six signal-callers were taken in 1983. The previous record for offensive players taken to start a draft was seven in 2021, and the record for most offensive players taken in the first round was also broken with 23. The previous record was 19, which happened three times before, most recently in 2009.
